Silva,Juliano Quarteroli; Gonçalves,Paulo de Souza; Scarpare Filho,João Alexio; Costa,Reginaldo Brito da.
The exploitation or tapping of the rubber tree, Hevea brasiliensis (Willd. ex Adr. de Juss.) Muell. Arg. is one of the most important cultural practices in determining useful life, yield and accounts for a major part of the total production costs in rubber farming. The objective of this work was to evaluate yield performance and economic aspects of rubber tree clones submitted to diverse tapping systems. The trial was placed in Guararapes city, São Paulo State, Brazil, in a randomized block design with split-plot in time. The plots consisted of the IAN 873, PR 261, RRI M 600 and RRI M 701 clones. The tapping systems consisted the subplots, where: ½S = tapping of half spiral cut; d/2, d/3, d/4, d/5 and d/7 = tapping every 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 days,...

Biodegradation of a blended starch/natural rubber foam biopolymer and rubber gloves by Streptomyces coelicolor CH13 Electron. J. Biotechnol.
Watcharakul,Sirimaporn; Umsakul,Kamontam; Hodgson,Brian; Chumeka,Wannapa; Tanrattanakul,Varaporn.
Background: The growing problem of environmental pollution caused by synthetic plastics has led to the search for alternative materials such as biodegradable plastics. Of the biopolymers presently under development, starch/natural rubber is one promising alternative. Several species of bacteria and fungi are capable of degrading natural rubber and many can degrade starch. Results: Streptomyces coelicolor CH13 was isolated from soil according to its ability to produce translucent halos on a mineral salts medium, MSM, supplemented with natural rubber and to degrade starch. Scanning electron microscope studies showed that it colonized the surfaces of strips of a new starch/natural rubber biopolymer and rubber gloves and caused degradation by forming holes,...

Effects of the Public Policies on the Natural Rubber Production in Sao Paulo and Mato Grosso States AgEcon
Rosado, Patricia Lopes; Tosto, Sergio Gomes; Gomes, Marilia Fernandes Maciel; do Carmo, Ciriaca A.F. Santana.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of the government intervention on the expansion of the natural rubber production in Sao Paulo and Mato Grosso states. The method used was the policy analysis matrix, developed by MONKE and PEARSON (1989). The results showed that the production of natural rubber in those states has conditions to face the liberalization changes that have been taking place in the international market. The government's role in that process is relevant in order to promote the development of that activity and to reduce the distortions, since these impede that the market signals guide the producer decisions in an integrated economy into the world market. Some policy measures can be carried out to improve the competitiveness...

Fatigue resistance of natural rubber in seawater with comparison to air ArchiMer
Ulu, K. Narynbek; Huneau, B.; Le Gac, Pierre-yves; Verron, E..
Fatigue properties of filled natural rubber in seawater environment are investigated by uniaxial fatigue and crack propagation experiments, and the damage is analyzed by scanning electron microscopy. The behavior under relaxing and non-relaxing loading conditions is studied and the results are compared to those obtained in air environment. For relaxing loading conditions, fatigue behavior is the same in both environments. Under non-relaxing conditions at large strain levels, for which the influence of strain-induced crystallization is important, fatigue life is longer in seawater. Such behavior could be explained by increased internal temperatures of specimens tested in air due to lower heat conductivity of air as compared to seawater. Such conclusion is...

Impact of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act on Rubber Block Plantation Scheme in Tripura AgEcon
Sharma, Gaurav; Joseph, Joby; Tharian, George K.; Dey, S.K..
Among the various promotional schemes targeted for the promotion of rubber in Tripura, Block Plantation Scheme (BPS) has been introduced exclusively for the rehabilitation of scheduled tribes and scheduled castes. BPS is a comprehensive scheme with the characteristic features of group/community approach in all spheres of operations up to primary processing and marketing and family labour participation as wage labour during the immature phase of the plantations spanning six years. However, there has been a distortion in the uninterrupted supply of family labour to the scheme in the recent past due to growing popularity of employment opportunities under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 (MGNREGA) programme, which may eventually...

Materials from renewable resources: new properties and functions Anais da ABC (AABC)
GALEMBECK,FERNANDO; BURGO,THIAGO A.L.; SILVA,DOUGLAS S. DA; SANTOS,LEANDRA P..
Abstract: Sustainable production requires increasing use of raw materials from renewable sources, processed under mild conditions with minimal effluent production. These requirements are satisfied by using materials derived from biomass, in synergy with food and energy production. The possibilities of biomass are continuously enlarged by new findings, as in the intrinsic nanocomposite properties of natural rubber and the amphiphile behavior of cellulose that translated into new functional materials, including high-performance, flexible and conductive non-metallic materials. Other findings are allowing a better understanding of electrostatic phenomena that play a positive role in electrostatic adhesion and cohesion of nanocomposites made from biomass...

Rubber gloves biodegradation by a consortium, mixed culture and pure culture isolated from soil samples BJM
Nawong,Chairat; Umsakul,Kamontam; Sermwittayawong,Natthawan.
Abstract An increasing production of natural rubber (NR) products has led to major challenges in waste management. In this study, the degradation of rubber latex gloves in a mineral salt medium (MSM) using a bacterial consortium, a mixed culture of the selected bacteria and a pure culture were studied. The highest 18% weight loss of the rubber gloves were detected after incubated with the mixed culture. The increased viable cell counts over incubation time indicated that cells used rubber gloves as sole carbon source leading to the degradation of the polymer. The growth behavior of NR-degrading bacteria on the latex gloves surface was investigated using the scanning electron microscope (SEM). The occurrence of the aldehyde groups in the degradation...

Kanlaya Mikhama; Yos Borisutdhi.
Currently, there are great interests in rubber tree planting by farmer in the Northeastern Thailand and the neighboring countries, due to its high return. As a result, there is a question of what are the differences of the rubber production behavioral aspect between the smallholder in the Northeast Thailand and the neighboring countries. Nakhon Phanom province, Thailand and Khammouane province, Lao PDR were chosen as study site. Secondary data, individual and group interviews, and field surveys were used as data collection in during 2010. It was illustrated that both locals had both similar and different production behavior by smallholder. Agronomic practices in term of weeding, fertilizing application, tapping system, and processing of rubber latex are...
